Nocturne Yallingup Cabernet Sauvignon: A Maverick’s Masterpiece from Margaret River
In the world of Australian wine, few names carry the same quiet swagger as Julian Langworthy. Known for his rebellious spirit and razor sharp palate, Langworthy is the creative force behind Nocturne, a label that began as a side hustle and has since become a cult favourite among wine lovers. And at the heart of this story lies the Nocturne Yallingup Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that is as bold and charismatic as its maker.
Origins
The roots of this Cabernet run deep literally. In 2016, Langworthy acquired the Sheoak Vineyard in Yallingup, a four hectare plot of mature Cabernet Sauvignon vines nestled in the northernmost corner of Margaret River. This site is no ordinary patch of dirt. It once produced a Jimmy Watson Trophy winner and now serves as the soul of Nocturne’s red wine program. The vineyard’s gravelly soils and cooling Indian Ocean breezes create the perfect conditions for Cabernet that is both powerful and poised
The Yallingup Cabernet is not a solo act. A touch of Merlot and Malbec from a neighbouring estate adds generosity and plushness to the mid palate, rounding out the structure with a velvet glove.

Tasting
In the glass, this wine is a sensory adventure. Aromas of ripe redcurrant, cassis and bay leaf leap out first, followed by hints of cedar, graphite and a whisper of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is medium bodied but full of presence, with silky tannins and a vibrant core of red fruit that dances across the tongue. There is a freshness here that keeps everything in balance, a signature of the Yallingup terroir.
Awards and Accolades
The Nocturne Yallingup Cabernet Sauvignon consistently garners praise for its elegance, complexity and age worthiness. It is a wine that does not shout but rather commands attention with quiet confidence.
Whether you are a seasoned collector or a curious newcomer, this Cabernet is a must try. It is not just a wine it is a statement. And like all great statements, it lingers long after the last sip.
