A Testament to Tasmanian Terroir

Nestled in the picturesque Pipers River region of Tasmania, Dalrymple Vineyards stands as a beacon of premium winemaking in Australia. Founded in 1987 by visionary winemaker David Morris, Dalrymple has steadily built a reputation for producing exceptional cool-climate wines that reflect the unique terroir of Tasmania's northern wine region.

History and Foundation

The story of Dalrymple Wines begins with David Morris, whose passion for winemaking led him to explore Tasmania's potential for producing world-class wines. In 1987, Morris planted the first vines on the estate, driven by a belief in the cool climate and fertile soils of Pipers River as ideal for growing grapes of exceptional quality. Over the years, Dalrymple has expanded its vineyard holdings, carefully selecting sites that offer the best expression of Tasmania's terroir.

The Vineyards

Dalrymple Wines boasts vineyards spread across several prime sites in the Pipers River region. Each vineyard is meticulously managed to ensure the grapes reach optimal ripeness while maintaining the freshness and acidity crucial to cool-climate wines. The maritime influence from Bass Strait and the cool breezes from the surrounding hills create a microclimate that is perfect for producing elegant, aromatic wines.

The soils vary across the estate, ranging from sandy loams to clay and gravel, providing a diversity that allows for the cultivation of different grape varieties. Varietals such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc thrive in these conditions, each contributing to Dalrymple's portfolio of distinctive wines.

 Winemaker: Peter Caldwell

Peter Caldwell was born in New South Wales and raised in Tasmania. After a season in a Pipers River vineyard he was inspired to study winemaking and viticulture at Roseworthy College in South Australia. Pete spent almost two decades in Burgundy, Bordeaux, California and New Zealand.

Under the stewardship of winemaker Pete Caldwell, Dalrymple Wines has continued to refine its winemaking techniques, focusing on minimal intervention to allow the purity of the fruit to shine through. Pete Caldwell brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of Tasmania's terroir, honed through years of working with cool-climate varietals. His approach emphasizes sustainable viticulture and precise winemaking practices, ensuring that each bottle reflects the essence of the vineyards.

The Wines

Dalrymple's portfolio showcases a range of wines that exemplify the elegance and complexity of Tasmania's cool-climate grapes. The flagship varietal, Pinot Noir, stands out for its bright red fruit flavors, silky tannins, and vibrant acidity. These characteristics are a testament to the careful vineyard management and gentle winemaking techniques employed at Dalrymple.

Chardonnay from Dalrymple exhibits a delicate balance of citrus and stone fruit notes, complemented by a crisp acidity and subtle oak influence. Meanwhile, the Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc are celebrated for their aromatic profiles, offering layers of tropical fruits and floral nuances that captivate the senses.
