By Farr RP Pinot Noir Côte Vineyard – Where Legacy Meets the Glass
High on a gentle rise in Victoria’s Moorabool Valley, the Côte Vineyard leans into the morning sun, its rows of vines tracing graceful lines across a patchwork of volcanic soils and limestone. This is the home of the By Farr RP Pinot Noir, a wine born not only from soil and season, but also from the enduring influence of Robyn Pamela Farr mother, partner, and an unwavering presence in the family’s winemaking journey.
The “RP” is more than an initialism; it’s an inscription of gratitude. Robyn’s quiet determination shaped the vineyard as much as the roots themselves, and her spirit is woven into every bottle.
Origins
Planted with an eye for complexity, the Côte Vineyard brings together a medley of terroirs red brown loam peppered with buckshot stones, deep volcanic clays, and grey loam shot through with limestone. These varied soils offer depth and tension to the fruit, while its north northeast slope catches just enough light to coax ripeness without sacrificing freshness.
Winemaking
The harvest is conducted entirely by hand, a respectful nod to tradition. Clusters are chilled, partially destemmed, and allowed to begin their slow ferment with only the yeasts carried in from the vineyard. For 19 days, the must is worked gently pigeage by hand, a few times each day before resting in fine grained French Allier oak, half of it new, for a patient 18 months.

Tasting
In the glass, the wine is captivating from the first swirl aromas of cherry and dark berries lift with hints of smoked herbs, forest moss, and subtle spice. The palate is layered and poised: red and black fruit at the core, framed by silky tannins and a line of acidity that carries the finish well beyond the last sip.
Awards and Accolades
Critics have been generous. The 2022 vintage earned 99 points from Huon Hooke, who praised its “depth delivered with elegance,” while Campbell Mattinson awarded 95 points, noting its seamless marriage of fruit, spice, and earth.
The By Farr RP Pinot Noir Côte Vineyard isn’t just a wine—it’s a testament to craft, place, and the woman whose initials it bears, offering each drinker a story worth savoring.
