Nocturne Treeton Chardonnay: Where Wild Soil Meets Winemaking Soul
If Chardonnay had a rebel cousin with impeccable taste, it would be the Nocturne Treeton. This wine is not just a bottle, it’s a story. Treeton, the sub region that gives this Chardonnay its name, is a bit of an oddball in Margaret River. It’s landlocked, unlike its coastal siblings, and Julian affectionately describes it as “a weird little place full of hillbillies, dairy cows and some exceptional Chardonnay vineyards” The climate here is a winemaker’s dream: warm days, cool nights and deep sandy soils that coax out natural acidity and finesse from the vines.
The fruit comes from two low yielding, cane pruned vineyards, and Julian’s approach to winemaking is what he calls “careful neglection.” …or.. let nature do the heavy lifting. The grapes are whole bunch pressed, fermented with wild yeasts and aged on lees in large French oak puncheons for nine months. No fining. No fuss. Just pure, expressive Chardonnay.

Tasting
Pop the cork and you’re greeted with a nose full of citrus, apricot and wet stone. The palate is creamy yet electric, with orchard fruit, subtle oak and a flinty minerality that lingers like a good conversation. It’s elegant, energetic and unapologetically Treeton.
