History

Yering Station, the first vineyard planted in Victoria, Australia, boasts a rich history dating back to 1838. The winery was established by the pioneering Ryrie brothers, who selected the fertile Yarra Valley for their vineyard. This early effort laid the groundwork for what would become one of Australia’s most renowned wineries. Over the decades, Yering Station saw various ownerships and transformations, each contributing to its legacy.

In the late 1990s, the Rathbone family acquired Yering Station, revitalizing its winemaking operations and cementing its reputation for quality and innovation. Today, Yering Station combines historic charm with contemporary winemaking practices, creating a bridge between its storied past and dynamic future.

The Vineyards

Yering Station’s vineyards are nestled in the heart of the Yarra Valley, an area celebrated for its cool climate and diverse terroir. This region's climate is characterized by mild temperatures, ample rainfall, and a long growing season, ideal for producing high-quality grapes. The vineyards span across varied altitudes and soil types, including grey loam over clay and sandy loam, allowing for the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties.

Sustainable viticulture practices are at the core of Yering Station’s vineyard management. The team employs organic and biodynamic principles to enhance soil health and biodiversity, ensuring the longevity and vitality of the vines. This commitment to sustainability not only supports the environment but also enhances the quality and expression of the fruit.
