Irrewarra Chardonnay 2021
Description
Bright straw yellow in colour. In the nose aromas of grapefruit, nectarine, peach, pineapple, roasted nuts and something of flint. Notes of lime peel, yellow stone fruit, tropical fruit, vanilla and a salty touch, which are accompanied by a long and mineral aftertaste with fresh acids.
Winemaker, Nick Farr, was the winner of the highly regarded Gourmet Traveller Magazine's winemaker of the year for 2020
Irrawarra was founded in 2001 by the Calvert family. The family is assisted by Nick Farr, who is considered one of the best winemakers in Australia. With an average rainfall of 850mm, it can be quite wet in this part of Geelong. "It's a place that demands attention," says Nick Farr. In general, the grounds remain very moist all year round, giving an attractive spicy depth to these exceptional wines.
Victoria is the wine region in southeastern Australia and one of the few cool climate zones in the country. Victoria has a predominantly cool to temperate climate. The proximity to the ocean, the elevation changes and the exposition of the vineyard play a major role. If we lump all sub-areas together, pinot noir and chardonnay are the two specialties. They are produced in all styles. Chardonnay ranges from full and concentrated from Geelong to light and fresh from Mornington Peninsula.
The grapes come from a vineyard that was planted in 2001. The grape bunches are very selectively picked by hand for optimal ripeness. In the vinification cellar, the whole bunches are pressed extremely gently and the juice is left to rest strongly cooled in order to allow the coarser components to settle.
