By Farr is the brand of the Farr Family, started in 1994 by Robyn and Gary on a north facing slope in the township of Bannockburn in the Moorabool Valley. The Original wines where Chardonnay by Farr, Viognier by Farr, Shiraz by Farr and Pinot Noir by Farr now known as Sangreal by Farr.

Over time with the help of Cassie and Nick the vineyards have expand to adjoining neighbouring properties and eventually greater expression of the single site wines that we have today because of the pieces of dirt they love to farm. The wines of By Farr are built around complexity, layered structure and undeniable length that places them in the highest regard by both consumers for their drinkability and age worthiness or critics around the world for their individuality

Gary Farr has been making wine in Moorabool Valley near Bannockburn since 1978, about an hour's drive from Melbourne. Before he started working in Australia, he traveled the world and learned the trade at Domaine Dujac in Burgundy, Cristom in Oregon and Calera in California. Not surprisingly, he fell under the spell of pinot noir and he took - not without a fight - back to Australia. 

Climate

The microclimate of the Moorabool Valley is influenced by winds from the western plains and bracing sea breezes, which regulate the temperature on long, sunny days and cool the air overnight. This climate is key to producing naturally balanced, low-yield fruit that is rich in flavour.

The region’s environment is both cool and harsh for viticulture, due to the low rainfall and ever-prevailing winds that sweep across the barren western plains of Victoria.

By Farr also produces premium chardonnay and have planted shiraz and viognier. Today, the business has been taken over by the next generation, Nick Farr, although Gary still keeps an eye on things. Winery By Farr has an area of ​​130 hectares, of which 36 hectares are planted with vines.
