    Winemaker: Nick Farr

IRREWARRA is an Aboriginal word meaning 'long spear throw'.The vineyards of Irrewarra are in the heart of Australia countryside, about 150 kilometers southwest of Melbourne. To get a picture think of beef, sheep, wheat, hay and forests. But also: vineyards.

Irrewarra was founded in 2001 by the Calvert family. They now own an area of 8 hectares, of which 6 hectares are planted with pinot noir and 2 hectares with chardonnay. In the vineyard and cellar, the family is assisted by Nick Farr, who is considered one of the best winemakers in Australia.

With an average rainfall of 850mm, it can be quite wet in this part of Geelong. "It's a place that demands attention," says Nick Farr. In general, the grounds remain very moist all year round, giving an attractive spicy depth to these exceptional wines.

Nick Farr was also the winner of the highly regarded Gourmet Traveller Magazine's winemaker of the year for 2020
