Dalrymple Vineyards was established by visionaries and is maintained by believers, who create wines worth waiting for.

Pipers River in the Tamar Valley is where the good stuff grows. Imagine - bald, windswept hills, ancient gum trees leaning at angles, roaring north west gales with sideways rain, fluttering wildflowers, and wheeling eagles.

This is wild country. A place of vivid greens, basalt browns, daffodil yellow and cornflower blues. A place where we co-exist with nature and the land.

Known as Black Clusters since 1827 Tasmania has been recognised as a producer of quality Pinot Noir. Tasmanian Pinot first hit the world stage at the Paris exhibition in 1848 before the Tasmanian wine industry was lost for more than 100 years. A handful of visionaries began to revive the industry and amongst them were Bertel and Anne Sundstrup who established Dalrymple Vineyards in 1987. It was the sloping hills overlooking Bass Strait that made the site unique and inspired the Hill-Smith family to purchase the vineyard in 2007, along with distinct single sites around Tasmania in their pursuit to produce the perfect single site Pinot. Despite its deep history, the world is only just discovering Tasmanian Pinot Noir.

     Winemaker: Peter Caldwell

Peter Caldwell was born in New South Wales and raised in Tasmania. After a season in a Pipers River vineyard he was inspired to study winemaking and viticulture at Roseworthy College in South Australia. Pete spent almost two decades in Burgundy, Bordeaux, California and New Zealand.

After meeting his wife in France he returned south to Pipers River where he settled at Dalrymple Vineyards. In his 10 years at Dalrymple Vineyards, Pete has expanded vineyard plantings by fifty per cent, rejuvenated Dalrymple’s winemaking operations and established the property’s own insectarium. Pete is passionate about producing modern, stylish Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
